US East Coast
2009
It’s nice to be cruising again. Away from the docks, a new rhythm sets in. Short, lazy sails, new anchorages and visits to towns are coupled with water conservation, stretching fresh foods, reading, guitar and art projects. Along the Chesapeake Bay, the Western Shore is plentiful with friends, boat races and parks. The Eastern Shore is a peaceful refuge.
Gunkholing

Quality time in the Chesapeake Bay
The rural nature of the Eastern Shore is quietly being taken up by huge mansions, but the landscape with its occasional farm still makes for quite a sight. We visited Oxford, St Michaels and Tilghman Island and had a mini-vacation with Scott & Tina on Sangaris. We had a memorable time gunkholing with them away from the bustle of Annapolis. We spotted bald eagles, shared many a sunset, good dinners and got in some nice sailing!
We had some slow and some brisk sails... and later stretched our legs on hikes. One of the more eventful anchorages ended up being smack in the middle of Wednesday night races in Galesville where Eric (Compass Rose) crewed on Bump. Close quartered sailing [anchoring] is not for the feint of heart!
